You are missing Sony's business model. Sony WILL support an outgoing system for 3 years after the release of a new system. It's smart business on so many levels I could write a 10 page paper on it and not get it all. Simply, there will not be enough PS4's playing DUST than PS3 for CCP to make money off of for another 2-3 years from PS4 release. PS3 is here for some time and will continue to be a money tool while building and perfecting PS4 integration. At the same time you talk of PS4 being a longer life for the game. SONY also has challenged any competitor and told it's users, expect a 6(ish) year run on every system so you know what you are getting. 9 years of gaming, 6 years for testing and releasing the next best thing. This saves from being a Sega and trying to rush and beat people to the punch and being outdone a year later with under developed tech. . Sony will not get into a race with ANYONE. Either way, Dust will have a designated life span on ANY Sony system regardless so it really doesn't matter.
And I just have to say. . . GAIKAI is genius but it's a cloud, thus also it is a goal and NOT a Promise and they made sure they made that known. PS3 and PS4 ARE NOT COMPATIBLE. Don't confuse that with cloud gaming, which is a goal and not expected to have any real results in retro system gaming of any major impact any time soon after release. The great thing is Cloud gaming allows for silly people to stop worrying about backwards compatability while nickel and diming you for old game titles. Extra revenue. Compatability is a dumb feature to put weight into, especially from here on out in gaming. In fact you will probably see them take a business approach and resell those older libraries like Ninitendo does and you will repay 4 bucks for FFVII on your PS4 rather than dust off your older system and play for free. . . . . sucker.
Personally I own the previous system so why do I care about compatability? It's a money pit for companies to cater too, and Sony is trying hard to get out from under it as is everybody else. BEHOLD THE CLOUD.
Sorry this got . . detailed. Small focused thinking blows my mind. Stop looking for details and grasp the concepts and apply accordingly.

The CONCEPT of this thread is moot by Sony's structured thinking alone. And they deserve KUDOS for it. |
